Our Club

We shoot .22 rifles from the prone position at 15 and 25 yards at fixed electronic targets. The range is indoor and is behind St Peter's Parish Hall opposite the Youth and Community Centre, St Peter, Jersey, Channel Islands.

15 Yard Paper Target

15 Yard Firing Point

Our club night is a Tuesday evening and we shoot from September to April starting at 7.00pm. Instruction and club equipment is available and we have a good selection of rifles, custom made shooting jackets and equipment to borrow.

Small-bore rifle shooting is a traditional sport where shooters shoot, mainly lying down, at targets that are 15 yards, 25 yards or 50 metres away (outdoor). The sport is about technique and training rather than focusing on firearms. The firearm is only one of the many tools that a shooter uses to hit the target, The rifles at Western are bolt action single shot target rifles and our sport only allows .22 calibre.

The Clubroom

At Western, we do not pressure shooters. We are relaxed, welcoming and like to enjoy our shooting. The only pressure is self inflicted to do better each time you shoot. All shooters use the same calibre of rifle, although they may look different, and shoot at the same time. All shooters shoot over the same distance in the same conditions.

We welcome all ages and abilities from 12 as well as new members, whether they have previous experience or not.

The club was founded in 1907, during the time between the Boer War and the First World War, when the Government of the day actively promoted the formation of shooting clubs. The club moved to its present site in 1968. Since then, the facilities have been improved and updated on a regular basis. The last major programme was a complete refurbishment of the clubhouse in 2015 which included the installation of electronic targets.

Other Disciplines

At Western, on our upstairs range, we have the facility to shoot both air pistol and air rifle. It is not a discipline that we shoot on a regular basis so please contact a member should you be interested.
